Welcome

Gouldianfinch.ca (GouldianFinchCare.com) is located in Southern Ontario, Canada. Our aviary consists solely of Lady Gouldian finches right now but we have had a many other species in the recent past. Our favourites being, Owl finches, Violet-eared Waxbills, Lavender Waxbills and Forbes Parrot finches. We hope to acquire some back in the next year or two.

Although we may occasionally have birds for sale, we are hobby breeders and this website is devoted to information regarding the care, breeding, keeping and showing of Gouldian finches. We have also included many photos and pictures of winning show birds in hopes of inspiring others to join in furthering the rewarding hobby of breeding and showing finches.

As avian enthusiasts we are devoted to producing some of the most beautiful Lady Gouldian finches in North America. In caring for our birds we strive to keep them happy and healthy without over supplementing or coddling. Our goal is to establish Gouldians that are both healthy and hardy while preserving correct colour and conformation. We try to promote the hobby through the sharing of information and the exhibition of our birds. We are currently on the executive of the Canadian Finch and Softbill Society (CFSS) and are members of the National Finch and Softbill Society of the USA (NFSS).

As a general note to those new to finches, Lady Gouldians do require a little extra work to keep when you compare them to some of the easy keeping beginner finch species, but they are well worth the effort. It is our hope to provide information on our website that will be of benefit to others who love the Gouldian finch as much as we do.

We hope that you will enjoy the website!

Best Regards,

Julie Lawson

November 2012 - Well... looks like one last show is in store. I'll have birds showing at the American National Caged Bird Show in St.Louis this coming weekend November 17th. A friend has taken them down for me. It will blow the lucky winning streak I'm sure, but it will be well worth it :)

November 4, 2012 -This has been an amazing year showing the Gouldians. I attended 4 shows this year and won best adult and young Gouldian finch at every show. My birds also managed to win best in show at all 4 events. This was a record year; one I certainly won't be able to repeat.

The Canadian National Bird Show being held in Richmond Hill Ontario, Canada on October 22 & 23, 2011.

The Canadian Aviacultural Society being held at the Etobicoke Olympium in Etobicoke Ontario, Canada on October 29 & 30, 2011.

The Canadian National was a great event. There were a total of 134 birds exhibited. 48 of which were Gouldians. Judge, Laura Tinker from the USA was execptionally knowledgable and thorough. We were so pleased to have won Third best Bird in show, Best adult Gouldian, 3rd best current year Gouldian and Best opposite sex. And although there weren't awards, we were even more excited to have placed three Gouldians in the top ten birds of the show, placing 3rd, 6th and 10th.

November 14, 2011 - Well it was another fun year showing our birds. We managed to win best gouldian at all of the shows we attended and were lucky enough to make to the top bench as well. With the show season over, we now look forward to setting the birds up for this years breeding season.

November 2011 - The focus in the bird room has shifted from showing to setting the birds up for this years breeding season. We will be pairing and setting the birds up over the next week or two.

December 2011 - The birds are all set up for breeding! For the most part anyway. Unfortunately a few of my females decided to go into a second moult. I will have to wait on them until they are finished. The males are taking it pretty well considering - not too much fighting.
